My research, titled “Development of a reinforcement learning controller for an automatic balancing platform,” was awarded a grade of 10.0/10.0 and has been nominated for Highest Honors (Matrícula de Honor).

The Project: Beyond the Curriculum

This thesis provided a unique opportunity to explore multidisciplinary areas that go far beyond the standard Computer Science syllabus. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience in fields like 3D Design (CAD) for mechanical prototyping and advanced Reinforcement Learning (RL).

By utilizing algorithms like PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization) and simulation environments such as Genesis/MuJoCo, I was able to dive deep into a field where I have discovered a true professional calling.

Closing the UPNA Chapter

This defense represents the culmination of my years at UPNA. Leaving with the highest possible grade and a nomination for honors is an achievement I am incredibly proud of. It is the best possible way to say goodbye to my home university before I embark on my next adventure.

Now, it is time to look forward. I am heading off on my Erasmus mobility program, eager to apply what I have learned in a new international environment and continue growing as an engineer.

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place at the Aula Fernando Remacha (Arrosadia Campus) and was a solemn yet deeply moving event. This particular graduation was especially significant as it was dedicated to students of the International Program and those of us participating in mobility programs (Erasmus).

Since many of us are heading abroad to complete our final semesters or projects at partner universities, this early ceremony allowed us to celebrate our achievements with our families and faculty before embarking on our international exchanges.

Personal Reflection

More than just an academic path, this journey has been defined by the shared growth and resilience we developed together as an international cohort. It was a privilege to share this milestone with colleagues who, like me, are ready to apply our technical foundation to global challenges with both excellence and humanity.
